Sleep Dentistry & Sedation
At Smile City, we offer a variety of sedation techniques and services to help patients relax and to ensure they feel comfortable while their dental work is taking place. We will help ensure your next dental procedure is as pleasant as possible.
Our patients have options when it comes to sleep dentistry and sedation. Our main types of sedation include:
- Nitrous oxide
- IV sedation
- General anesthetic
Nitrous oxide or “laughing gas” is inhaled by the patient to induce a state of relaxation. IV sedation is the ideal technique for patients who require a deeper level of sedation and induces a sleep-like state.
Candidates for sedation include individuals who are nervous or anxious about undergoing dental treatment. While many people may not look forward to going to the dentist’s office, others have severe dental anxiety – to the point that they avoid receiving dental care. Too often these individuals do not receive the dental care they need and eventually develop gum disease and other conditions that can seriously jeopardize their oral health.
Smile City offers sedation techniques so that nervous patients do not have to postpone or avoid treatments due to their phobias or anxiety. We also offer sedation to patients who are undergoing a long or intense procedure or for those who simply want to relax and be less aware of their surroundings. Almost everyone in good general health is a candidate for sedation. Although patients with certain medical conditions may not be ideal.
Opting for IV sedation during your dental appointment will induce you into a sleep-like state so that you feel virtually no discomfort, pain, or anxiety during the procedure. Patients often enjoy the fact that the treatment seems to go by faster, since they have no concept of time while sleeping. More often than not, patients have no memories of the treatment being performed at all.
